Reply Mary Jo Sminkey May 17th, 2015 I'm using my mother's Viking Designer sewing machine and it's unusable right now due to this bird's nest issue, it does appear to be Troubleshoot Plan A: This is something I see all the time with new sewers, and the answer could be one of a few issues. Try tightening the tension on the upper thread so it will catch the bobbin thread and pull it up.
