It really was just the enclosure and my drive is working fine. So my brother he clicked on"configure USB Drive" and he click on "customize". The system log shows input/ouput errors and suddenly the drive disappears with the error ‘no media present'. Seagate Freeagent Go with the buzzing and the beeps, although it sounds more like clicks on mine.

Update 31/08: After a night's rest, the drive was detected by OS X and appeared to function normally. but if the problem is indeed the motor for the drive then this won't help.
