In terms of your second "issue", I really havent tested it out but I think it is working as it should. My suggestion is to read this article, particular the part towards the end about conflicting methods. The email address must be entered within the email addresses tab, it might go wrong if you enter the complete email address within the alias field. Let's say the account is structured like this.

I configured the distribution group for a user and gave the user SEND AS permission but when i log on to the user outlook and open new email to send using Spread the word by using a promotional banner in your email signature.
