You can not post a blank message. Open Mail again, and you’ll see a message that Mail has to import your messages. Might be of help. When I search any mailbox using the search field in the upper right corner of the window, there are no results. Another caveat, if you use IMAP or Exchange with any of the accounts, the process will redownload every message from the server, so you'll use a lot of bandwidth.
